Carré d’Art – Musée d’art contemporain (Contemporary Art)

Since 1993, this superb building designed by Lord Norman Foster has been home to the Contemporary Art Museum featuring art from the 1960’s to the present day with nearly six hundred works based on three major themes:

• an overview of French art with examples from the predominant  movements of the time and distinctive groups beyond those rubrics : New Realism, Supports/Surfaces, BMPT and la figuration libre
• a Mediterranean Identity coming from the south of France, Spain and Italy: Arte Povera, Trans-Avant-Garde
• examples of anglo-saxon and German movements.

Carré d’art is also a resource centre specialising in contemporary art with a famous bookshop and a very dynamic support group, Association des Amis du Musée d’Art Contemporain.
