Château des Comtes de Foix
Foix | 09
Reopening 6 July 2024
With its high walls and its three towers, the Foix Château rises above the Arget and Ariège rivers and offers beautiful panoramic views of the Pyrenees.
Two of the three towers are furnished and decorated: you can wander through the prison cell, the writing room, the bedroom, a weapons room, the banquet hall, a grand reception room. Welcome to the home of Gaston Fébus !
Workshops led by guides dressed in period costume will help you learn about the handling of bows and arrows and crossbows as well as stone cutting, iron works and ingenious hoisting tools and military equipment. At last the Arget tower is open to the public!
At the base of the château, the former palace of justice has become a 2000m2 museum space in which you can learn about the history of the Counts of Foix and experience their triumphs, defeats, their marriages, their passions and their beliefs.
