Musée Bibliothèque Pierre André Benoît (Publishing Museum)
Alès | 30
Pierre André Benoît, or PAB as he was known in the publishing world, was a printer, poet, sculptor and graphic designer. In 1986 he donated his modern art collection to his native town, Alès in order to create a museum in his name.
He also donated his literary collection, art books, correspondence and work archives to the National Library of France (dedicated to rare and precious books) asking that a copy of each book written by him be given to the Alès Museum.
Since 1989, the collections of Pierre André Benoît (paintings, drawings, sculptures, and art books) have been on display at the former Château de Rochebelle with its delightful neo-classic façade. This calm and peaceful place houses works by world famous artists : Alechinsky, Braque, Picasso, Miró, Picabia, Survage, Dubuffet, Vieira da Silva, Bryen, Hugo and nearly 450 books produced by PAB about poetry and paintings in a collection that is unique in France.
