An innovative museum, an archaeological garden and a public space, the Roman Civilisation Museum is one of the largest contemporary cultural and architectural complexes in France.
The archaeological collections on show illustrate the the city of Nime’s exceptional past , a key Ancient Roman site. The in-depth exhibition offers visitors a unique experience that covers twenty five centuries of history
Around 5000 objects are on display. The chronological and themed tour starts with the 7th-century BC (The Iron Age, Gallic Period) up to the Middle Ages that have been enhanced thanks to the donations made by scholars during the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, Visitors can admire the mosaics, the bronze and marble statues that have been amassed and restored over the centuries and are exceptionally well-preserved. Everyday objects ( glassware, oil lamps, ceramics …) coins and inscriptions round off this vast overview illustrating the genius of one of the greatest civilisations of antiquity,
