The Armagnac Museum is housed in the outbuildings of the former Episcopal Palace of Condom. Since 1981 it has based its exhibitions around the production process of its famous, eponymous drink, Armagnac. This archetypal municipal collection dating back to 1848 is made up mainly of numerous paintings from the French school of the last century. The exhibition features an enormous nineteenth-century wine press, an explanation of agricultural and wine-making techniques and sections dedicated to the distillation and barrel-making processes and how they are all linked to the local economy. Centred around Armagnac, which was throughout the long history of Condom and river Baïse, the main source of the territory’s wealth.
The Museum is run under the auspices of the departmental Conservation and heritage authorities and the Museums/Flaran (Department of Gers) and is part of the network of Sites and Museums of the Gers
