Musée d’Histoire de Figeac (History)
Figeac | 46
The Figeac History Museum, is a museum of France that backs onto the recently restored salons of the former Seminary. It embodies not only the material memory of the City and the Lot department but beyond that, it evokes distant journeys made by a number of generous donors. Arranged in part as a cabinet of curiosities, visitors will discover a delightful collection of works inspired by the Lot by the Catalan painter Pierre Daura (1869-1976) as well as official gifts presented to President Georges Pompidou (elephant tusks, Arabic saddles)
Prehistoric tools (Acheulean arrowheads, neolithic axes) are displayed alongside firearms. Stuffed buffalo-toads and seahorses as well as fossils from the Figeac region can also be seen. Finally, the painted portraits add to the wealth of decorative pieces most notably the remarkable sacristy furniture from the Church of Notre-Dame-du-Puy and the head of Christ sculpted locally before the Revolution.
