The Gévaudan Museum is part of a regional regeneration project that includes the rehabilitation and extension of an area within the historic center, including 17th-century plots protected as Historical Monuments. Built on the site of the previous history museum (the original museum of the Société des Lettres in 1836, Departmental Museum Ignon-Fabre from 1976 to 1995), the new exhibition space will be spread over 3 levels and nearly 1200m2.
- The ground floor : an open-plan area that focuses on the region, communal spaces to experience and share ideas including the Center for the Interpretation of Architecture and Heritage (CIAP) – Region of Art and History, Mende and Lot-en-Gévaudan
- First floor : permanent exhibition Nature & Culture. From the first vestiges of life to contemporary creativity including the Beast of Gévaudan…A variety of disciplines are represented: painting, sculpture, archaeology, earth science, ethnography…
- Second floor : temporary exhibition space and workshops
