Musée du Pays de Cocagne
Lavaur | 81
Every year the museum offers two major events (May/August and October/December) in the temporary exhibition hall located in the chapel of des Sœurs du Christ Church.
The museum is currently closed for renovation and therefore the permanent collections are not open to the public.
Today the museum’s reserve collection has several thousand works made up of rich collections of religious art, fine arts, archaeology, local art and craftwork as well as a unique Midi-Pyrenean collection belonging to the former Puget organ factory.
The original Lavaur Museum had been created in 1898 within the Hotel de Ville where it benefitted from several State-owned collections. Over the years it was left derelict and then in 1952 it was relaunched by the Lavaur Archaeology Society and renamed The Vaurais Regional Museum. It grew through a number of bequests and donations. In 2002, the semi-associative organisation became a municipal one.
