Musée du Saut du Tarn
Saint-Juéry | 81
Founded in 1995 by former employees of the local steelworks, the museum is based in the industrial site of Saut du Tarn in part of the factory that was the hydroelectric plant and is now classified as an historical monument. This building, classified as a Heritage Site, not only resurrected the industrial era but it also produced its first electricity.
Electric generators, alternators, underground passages will guide you up to the turbines where the water is removed allowing visitors to pass through.
Videos, kinetic models and demonstrations are to be found within the museum. A sound and light show entitled Saut de Sabo (named after a hydroelectric station in the region) is presented throughout the 23 meter length of the tour. Every year the museum schedules several events around its nineteenth and twentieth century collections.
Artists, musicians, story tellers, actors, dancers help bring to life various aspects of the local heritage. Their unique creativity is inspired by the place itself.
