Musée du Vieux-Toulouse
Toulouse | 31
Founded in 1907 by the Toulousains from Toulouse Association, the Museum of Old Toulouse welcomes visitors in the prestigious setting of an end-of-the Renaissance townhouse, the Hotel Dumay.
Only 100 meters from the Place Capitole, the setting is surprisingly calm and quiet, perfect for a voyage to the city’s past. The tour, consisting of thematic galleries, allows visitors to explore the many aspects of the city’s evolution (the origins, the ramparts, the Midi canal, the civil and religious monuments …) its former institutions (the “capitouls”, the Parliament) the Toulouse artists, the artistic life at the end of the nineteenth century (particularly the role of the Capitole Theatre that made Toulouse a leader in France for opera, theatre and dance), without forgetting the extensive collection of local glazed ceramic ware or a display of fashion and everyday life at the beginning of the twentieth century.
